Calcium
Supplemental calcium should always be available to your isopods. Like all arthropods, isopods must shed their exoskeleton as they grow. If calcium is not provided, they cannot properly form a hard, protective shell. This can cause issues both with molting an old shell and with mineralizing the new one afterwards. We recommend having at least two varieties of calcium available, as each source will have different trace elements and minerals. These are the most common calcium supplements used:
Cuttlebone
Limestone
Dolomitic Lime
Oystershell
Crab/lobster shell
Calcium carbonate
Coral
Bone and bone meal
Eggshells
Seashells
